Mount Nebo is a Gospel-centered organization focused on building life-giving mentor-mentee relationships with underserved children.
Mount Nebo exists to bring Gospel-centered community development and mentorship to children of under-resourced communities. Our vision is to see those we serve equipped in relational community and lifestyle management. We accomplish our vision through mentorship, programming, and discipleship.
COME SEE IT FOR YOURSELF. We'd love to host you on a Thursday night. Give us a shout to set it up!
Base Camp is our largest and longest-running program occurring in each of our communities every Thursday night. Base Camp is open to any community resident ages 2-18. At Base Camp, our volunteers work to build life-giving mentor-mentee relationships with students through general play outdoors, "family dinners", weekly discussions through Biblical programming, and dance parties.
Academy is our four-day-a-week after school program that promotes homework help, STEM learning, fine arts, and other life skills. Academy also gives our students a safe place to go after school and a venue through which to dream big for their own futures.
Our Mountaintop Time program consists of volunteers spending time with our students outside of normal program hours. To many of our kids, “time = love”, and growing those relationships means being a consistent presence in their lives. Our volunteers take students to get ice cream, swim at the pool, and countless other activities around the city. We also attend school activities such as sporting events, plays, and talent shows. It is in these settings that our deepest relationships are formed, as students feel loved and known and are more willing to open up about their lives.
Morgan Benoit is joining Mount Nebo’s staff as our new Regional Director of Austin. She has served as a community leader, tutor, color group leader, and volunteer at Georgian Manor.
Here are some questions we asked Morgan so you could get to know her better:
In short, I work with Mount Nebo because God calls us to care for the under-resourced — even those who are right in our backyards — and because I’ve seen first hand the mighty works He is accomplishing through singing songs, playing games, and sharing a hot meal with these kids. There is no place on Earth I would rather be!
What is your ideal Saturday?
I don’t have any specifics in mind but I would be with the friends I love playing Hot Seat or something the whole day! Maybe we could also go swimming or to Chick-fil-A too?
If you could only have one kind of food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
TexMex for sure! Chips & Guac all day everyday!
What’s your biggest goal for Nebo this year?
My biggest goal for Mount Nebo this year would be to foster better relationships and friendships among the volunteer staff. I would love to have a better sense of family amongst our communities!
Give Morgan a warm welcome!! She will be managing many aspects of Base Camp and Academy .You can reach her at Morgan@mountneboaustin.com.
